SUMMARY PAPER
Maladaptive chronic pain is a common condition often seen in clinical practice. Numerous labels have been proposed to name people with maladaptive chronic pain such as central sensitisation pain or nociplastic pain. Despite all these labels, there is currently no gold standard to identify these patients in clinical settings and different diagnostic criteria such as the most recent IASP grading system for nociplastic pain have been developed. In this lecture, the author will present update information of the different labels, diagnostic criteria and controversies around the concept of maladaptive chronic pain and will open the debate on this topic.
